Dear Biochemists and other Proteus RC-members,
The University is organizing a science day in September and will be running workshops for 13-19 year olds (and their families).
All research communities are expected to contribute to this AND this could be very useful advertising for getting more students in the doors (BSc recruitment is a continuing issue).
The format for the workshops is copied below. The email requesting workshop ideas came today and they want replies by tomorrow! I think it would be good if we coordinated our response.
I think it is essential that biochemistry/proteus does AT LEAST one workshop, it might be politically good to have two, one from Proteus (protein related) and one from the biochemistry department (other aspects of biochemistry). I will try to coordinate this, but please send any ideas you have for what the titles and contents of workshops could be to me ASAP (preferably within the next 24 hours).
Thanks and best wishes,
Lloyd
Presentations for school workshops
The goal of the Science Day is to have 4000 pupils at the age of 13-19 at the University during the day. For them there is going to be a program. It consists of 60 workshops, in which the science is presented focusing on the development areas of the University of Oulu: human, environment and technology. Each workshop is for 10-20 students and lasts for an hour. These workshops can also be presented with minor changes for families with children. Please list three topics that are suitable for a workshop. Also give your proposition for conducting the workshop. Furthermore, it is possible also to list the names of the scientists, who know about this subject, or other contact persons for the event. Suggest the suitable location for workshop (campus, room, class, lecture hall). Mention also special requirements for the workshop, such as materials, security, etc. University students are guiding these workshops and visitor groups.

Eva Maria Raudasoja
johtaja
