Seeking a Ph.D. student (biology or related) interested in hematopoietic stem cell biology
Halvard Bonig (Hematopoietic cell research, Institute for Transfusion Medicine and Immunohematology, Clinics of the Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany) and Yong-Mi Kim (USC, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, CA) are seeking a Ph.D. student for January 1, 2010 or later, to pursue studies in the field of hematopoietic stem cell research in vitro and in the mouse model (basic research). Specifically, the candidate will be studying novel Chemokine receptor antagonists for their effects on primitive hematopoiesis (specifically stem cell mobilization) and will test effects of leukemia cell mobilization on their sensitivity to cytoreductive chemotherapy in xenotransplant models. The projects are scheduled for three years and funding for this time span has been secured. The candidate will be based in Frankfurt, but is expected to spend the second year of his studies in Los Angeles. The successful candidate will be an employee of the Goethe- University Frankfurt. The laboratories are excellently equipped, the professional climate is generally exuberant. The research group currently consists of 4 members, 2 Ph.D. students and 2 advanced scientists.
