Dear all,
We are very flexible when it comes to reasons for extensions to the Pro Gradu project, essentially anything that stops a student working on the project can give an extension to the experimental work (which autogives a
corresponding extension to the write up period) or an extension to the write up period.
Examples of valid reasons include ill-health (student or supervisor), essential equipment breaking, essential reagents being unavailable etc.
To apply for an extension submit a signed letter (typically two or three sentences long) saying you request an extension, the reason, the time period involved and the new proposed end date.
The Pro Gradu can also include an appendix that includes experimental data obtained after the experimental period has ended. This is not included in the grading, but can be cited in the main body of the thesis e.g. in
the discussion section.
Senior members of staff discussed today the possibility of granting an extension to the write up period based on issues related to the appendix to the thesis. The conclusion was that we would not grant such extensions,
as it opens up the possibility for abusing the system – anyone could extend the write up period for as long as they want based on adding a short appendix.
I would be happy to answer any questions people may have.
Best wishes,
Lloyd
