About Us
We are a major international research centre at the forefront of studies in mouse genetics and functional genomics. We are investigating a wide variety of disease models in mice, in order to enhance our understanding of the molecular and genetic basis of disease.
About the Role
We require a skilled molecular biologist to coordinate a busy genome engineering service for 3 years, in the first instance. You will work in the Molecular and Cellular Biology group, with close collaborations with the Gene Delivery and the Genotyping and Mutation Screens (GEMS) core facilities.
The MLC undertakes generation and quality control of mouse targeted alleles, for both large-scale mutagenesis programmes or as a bespoke service for individual laboratories. You will be based in the Molecular and Cellular Biology group and coordinate the genome engineering work at the MLC. You will work in an eight-strong team under the guidance of the Molecular and Cellular Biology Deputy Manager, and be responsible for the design, implementation and quality control of new alleles, with the support of two research assistants. In addition you will communicate with MLC's customers, other relevant MLC departments and present the work of the service in conferences and courses.
About You
Strong molecular biology and organisational skills are essential. Experience in the handling of either CRISPR reagents and RNAs, mouse embryonic stem cell culture or generation of complex plasmid based-constructs is desirable but not essential, as training can be provided.
Benefits
We are strongly committed to your personal development and well-being, with extensive opportunities for training and flexible working. Choosing to come to work at the MRC means that you will have access to a whole host of benefits, from a final salary pension scheme and 30 days of holiday entitlement plus bank holidays, access to employee shopping/travel discounts and salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme and childcare vouchers.
