KVT Finland organises this year 17 workcamps, and especially this email is meant to advertise the FIRST CAMPS in May to Erasmus students and immigrants living in Finland. Nothing prevents Finns from participating in workcamps here, either. Worldwide there is thousands of camps organised every year, which you can find at http://camps.sciint.org/ A workcamp is a voluntary work project which lasts 2-3 weeks. You pay for your trip and camp fee, and you get accommondation, food and insurance. "Uusi Tuuli, Turku" Begin:May 8, 2006, End: May 28, 2006 Topic: North South solidarity Campcode:FI-KVT-2-1 Uusi Tuuli is a NGO in Turku that works for fair trade and solidarity. Some years ago its sailing ship Estelle did a trip to Angola taking aid supplies there and bringing fair trade goods to Finland. During this summer the ship needs renovating, for example the mast and the wirerobes needs attention. Also bicycles will be collected and disassembled. The work is physical and participants should be able to take their own initiatives. Study: Fair Trade, Emmaus-movement and other themes of globalisation etc. Joint sailing from Turku to Helsinki with Estelle in the end of the camp. In Helsinki Estelle and volunteers will participate to Maailma Kyl�ss� -festival. Bicycles are used as vehicles during the camp. Accommodation will be in sailing ship Estelle. Therefore no disabled or participants with children can be accepted. NOTE! If someone wants to join only for the camp and skip sailing, she/he can join the first two weeks and leave before the last week sailing. The idea of the festival is to present NGO's and to support multiculturalism and development cooperation (www.worldvillage.fi). Work: Work will be done in two different places. Before the festival the work will be simple renovating and working outside in the place where vols are accommodated. The festival work will be building up and taking down festival tents, decorating the festival area, etc. Accommodation: Vols will stay on a small island in an old house, which is maintained by a small ecologically orientated association. Simple accommodation; there's no running water or showers, but vols can use a sauna building for washing. Showers are available at the festival area. Number of Volunteers: 10
