Subject: [Bco] PhD student position at University of Helsinki, Folkhälsan Research Center

OPEN PhD STUDENT POSITION AT UNIVERSITY OF HELSINKI –FOLKHÄLSAN RESEARCH CENTER

A PhD student position in mitochondrial research is open for a highly motivated individual - the project includes studies on respiratory chain complex III

dysfunction in a transgenic mouse model for a mitochondrial disease (GRACILE) and in Drosophila.

Our group is interested in translational research to elucidate the cellular function of BCS1L protein (a chaperone for the assembly of respiratory chain complex III). We

have ongoing research activities in a mouse model both in University of Helsinki and Lund University thus providing an international education for the doctoral student.

The lab is situated within Folkhälsan Research Center in Biomedicum, Helsinki, Finland. Current projects in the lab focus on understanding the disease mechanism of

respiratory chain dysfunction and interventions to ameliorate it.

We offer a possibility for exchange visits at Biomedical Centrum laboratory in Lund University, insight into mitochondrial pathobiology, and an opportunity to learn new

methodology. A personal research grant is provided. Successful applicants should have a Master’s degree in cell biology, biochemistry, biosciences or related disciplines (alternatively, the applicant could start with a pro gradu project that will continue into a PhD project). Position is available immediately.

We are looking for a motivated candidate with interest in experimental animal work (mouse model, Drosophila), and with willingness for Nordic collaboration.

To apply, email your application, CV, and contact information of one reference to Professor Vineta Fellman vineta.fellman@helsinki.fi (Department of Pediatrics

University of Helsinki and Folkhälsan Research Center). Additional information about the research group is available per request. Applicants will be evaluated based

on qualifications and suitability for the project.

Application deadline is October 10, 2013 or until an excellent candidate is found.
