The research group of Tommi Kajander has an open position for a Ph.D. student to continue our structural studies on neuronal adhesion protein function, complemented by biochemical
and imaging techniques. The available project will be currently funded by a grant from the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation and will be discussed in detail during the interview of selected candidates. University of Helsinki and Institute of Biotechnology provide
an international and dynamic research environment. Facilities include state-of-the-art core facilities for structural biology (robotic crystallization, x-ray and NMR data collection, abundant access to European synchrotrons) as well as
e.g. for fluorescence and electron microscopy and mass spectrometry.
Applicants with a strong background in either (1) biochemistry or (2) structural biology and biophysics, or in a related field, are encouraged to apply. Basic wet lab skill in molecular
biology and preferably protein work and good communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English are required. Experience in working with protein purification from insect cells, X-ray crystallography or modern cell biology methods will be considered
an asset.
The deadline for applications is July 31st, 2015, or until suitable candidates are found. Earliest starting date would be from September 2015.
