Postdoc (PhD) or project researcher (MSc) position (2 years, apply by 18.8.2019)
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic member to our research group with a background in molecular microbiology or related field (such as genetics, molecular biology). The daily work includes basic microbiological techniques, digital droplet PCR analyses, sequencing and genetic modification of plasmids.
In this project, we study conjugatively delivered CRISPR-Cas9 plasmids together with bacteriophages in removing antibiotic resistances from bacterial communities. We also investigate horizontal transfer of resistance genes within complex bacterial communities under various selection pressures. Communities for these experiments will be constructed mainly from human fecal samples.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a Master of Science degree in molecular biology, microbiology or related field in project "Evolutionary rescue of bacteria via horizontal gene transfer during antibiotic treatment in complex gut microbiome". (choose subject no. 4 when filling the application form)
The project aims to determine factors that influence evolutionary rescue potential under antibiotic selection in complex communities. The aim is to understand the roles of the following factors in evolutionary rescue dynamics: 1. Type of resistance gene, 2. Type of genetic element (conjugative or mobilizable plasmid), 3. Resistant bacterial species, and 4. Community structure. Deciphering the influence of these factors provides a framework for understanding how an altruistic (or 'leaky') community adapts via dissemination of rescuing elements under sudden strong selection pressure.
