Subject: [Bco] Postdoc and PhD student positions are available in thefunctional genomics laboratory led by Dr. Gonghong Wei atBiocenter Oulu

Postdoc and PhD student positions are available in the functional genomics laboratory led by Dr. Gonghong Wei at Biocenter Oulu, Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine, University of Oulu, Finland.

Wei’s group aims to define the fundamental roles of several transcription factors (TFs) including the ETS family members (Wei et al., EMBO J. 29:2147, 2010), HOXB13, MYC and others in driving prostate cancer progression to metastasis. We are also interested in the functional interpretation of the prostate cancer risk-associated SNPs identified by genome-wide association studies (see an example, Huang et al., Nat Genet. 46:126, 2014). We are using integrative genomics approaches such as ChIP-seq, RNA-seq, FAIRE-seq and 3C-derived methods in combination with bioinformatics/computational tools and novel or classic molecular assays. The genes, enhancers and SNPs of clinical interest will be deeply validated in multiple cell and animal models. For research in detail, please visit Wei’s lab website: http://www.oulu.fi/biocenter/groups/wei. Qualifications
The postdoc candidates should hold or have a to-be-achieved PhD in molecular cell biology or a related field, with bioinformatics/computing skills would be a big plus.

The PhD candidates should hold an MSc degree in computing, bioscience and/or any field of bioinformatics, and have strong interest in Next Generation Sequencing data analysis and mining. The PhD students will be under the joint supervision and awarding a double doctoral degree of Genomics/Bioinformatics/Systems Biology between University of Oulu, Finland, and Soochow University, China (Bairong Shen, bairong.shen@suda.edu.cn; Professor and Director of Center for Systems Biology, http://www.sysbio.org.cn).

The ideal postdoc/PhD candidates should have excellent communication skills in English and strong motivation to work in a dynamic and challenging research area of Molecular Medicine and Functional Genomics/Bioinformatics. The positions are funded by the Universities, the Academy of Finland and Foundations. The salary level will refer to Finnish University salary scheme (demand level 1-4 for PhD student; demand level 5 for postdoc), and commensurate with experience of the candidates. When the joint PhD candidates studying in Soochow University, the highly competitive salary will be provided according to the Soochow University salary scheme specified for the double doctoral training program.

To apply, please email your CV with a publication list, statement of research interest and skills, and contact information of 2-3 references as a single PDF document to gonghong.wei@oulu.fi before August 8, 2014.
