The Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Manchester, UK is seeking 5 outstanding research students for their Wellcome Trust-funded 4year PhD programme starting in September 2007.

 

Their focus is on the function and regulation of protein complexes in health and disease, in: Cell division, apoptosis, stem cells and tissue regeneration, extracellular matrix, cell adhesion and the cytoskeleton, organelle function and membrane trafficking

 

The student should demonstrate academic excellence and high motivation for research. They offer an excellent intellectual and scientific environment, a choice of 36 well-funded research laboratories, and a generous stipend (currently ~£16k-£18k).

 

The 1st year of the Wellcome Ph.D. programme involves 3 laboratory-based projects. The projects are supported by a taught module. Based on the experience you gain during your 1st year, you will choose the topic of your Ph.D. research, and who will be your Ph.D. supervisor.
