RESEARCH ASSISTANT POSITION IN BIOMEDICUM FUNCTIONAL GENOMICS UNIT, UNIVERSITY OF HELSINKI
Biomedicum Functional Genomics Unit (FuGU) is a core facility located in Biomedicum Helsinki. FuGU operates at the University of Helsinki and is part of the national infrastructure network Biocenter Finland. FuGU provides users access to a wide range of functional genomics services and customized solutions with special expertise in genome profiling and viral gene transfer technologies. The unit currently employs staff of 10 including molecular biologists, bioinformatician and research assistants.
The position gives you an opportunity to develop your skills in a wide range of areas of genome-wide biology and functional genomics. The position involves customer analyses in genome-wide microarray and next-generation sequencing services. The position includes day-to-day genome profiling operations and development of novel assays.
A successful candidate is a biotechnology engineer or equivalent or has Master’s degree in life sciences or applied life sciences. Candidate should be well-versed with basic molecular biology techniques and ideally has previous experience in microarray or next-generation sequencing technologies. The position involves variety of customer service related tasks. Successful implementation of tasks will require ability to work independently and as part of a team of scientists and research assistants as well as positive customer-oriented attitude.
The position is a maternity leave substitute and it is open from the beginning of March 2014. Deadline for the application is February 7th, 2014 but the position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is identified.
