Subject: [Bco] FIMM invites
applications for PhD student and postdoctoralpositions in cancer research,
bioinformatics and human genomics
The Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is a newly founded partner institution of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) that connects the University of Helsinki, the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS), the National Public Health Institute (KTL) and the VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland). FIMM laboratories are located in the brand new state-of-the-art Biomedicum Helsinki 2 research building on the Meilahti medical campus in Helsinki.
FIMM invites applications for PhD student and postdoctoral positions in cancer research, bioinformatics and human genomics
FIMM is currently recruiting outstanding PhD student and postdoctoral candidates to join its new research programs. These positions will be offered in the following research groups:
Director, Professor Olli Kallioniemi (http://www.fimm.fi/Research_Olli.htm): PhD student and Postdoctoral positions at Genome-scale breast and prostate cancer research, translational research on biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
Group Leader, PhD Emmy Verschuren (http://www.fimm.fi/Group_Verschuren.htm): PhD student (2) and postdoctoral (1) positions at Molecular and cell biological assessment of novel regulators of cell cycle deregulation and cancer predisposition
Group Leader, PhD Sergey Kuznetsov (http://www.fimm.fi/Group_Kuznetsov.htm): PhD student (1) and postdoctoral (1) positions at Development of preclinical mouse models of human cancers
PhD student and postdoctoral positions are open for applicants with a basic education in medicine, biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics or other related fields. Successful candidates are expected to start their appointment in early 2009. FIMM is an international research institute with English as the official language. The salary for the posts will be based on the Finnish university salary system. PhD student candidates will be offered the possibility to apply to local graduate schools, such as the HGBS ( www.hgbs.fi ).
The candidates may specify the research group that is most interesting for them, FIMM also encourages and funds a one-year rotational fellowship to help candidates to carry out research in the various FIMM groups, as well as among the FIMM molecular medicine network before starting their long-term PhD student or postdoc positions. Finally, rotations of PhD student and postdoc positions between the EMBL and the EMBL Nordic molecular medicine locations are encouraged.
To apply, please submit the following documents in a single PDF file: 1) cover letter, including a statement of research interests; 2) curriculum vitae and a list of publications; 3) the names of group leaders and research groups that you may be interested to work with 4) names and contact information of three referees. Applications should be addressed to the Director of FIMM, Professor Olli Kallioniemi, and sent to fimmemail@helsinki.fi , no later than December 16, 2008.
For further information please contact the Research coordinator, Dr Kimmo Pitkänen, ( kimmo.pitkanen@helsinki.fi ), or the individual group leaders. Please visit our website www.fimm.fi for details of FIMM and its research programs.
