PhD
position at VTT in Oulu, Early stage researcher, printed low-cost
biosensors
Function:
Microtechnologies and Sensors
VTT
Technical Research Centre of Finland is looking for an early stage researcher
to be involved in the research of printed low-cost biosensors. The research
field will consist of the development of biocompatible inks and printing
processes. Development of the methods to immobilize bioreceptors on flexible
substrates and characterize their functionality on sensor platforms will be the
most important research subjects. The position will be for a three years fixed
period.
The
successful applicant will be enrolled as early stage researcher in the
Flexsmell project (EU Marie-Curie Initiative) involving mostly training trough
research. The FlexSMELL project aims to realize a hybrid (organic-inorganic)
very low-cost, ultra low-power olfaction system based on bio-receptor and
implemented on a flexible substrate by printing. Forefront transduction
principles such as Organic Thin- Film Transistors (OTFTs) but also capacitors
and resonators w! ill be implemented. Such a system is to be compatible with
wireless read- out, setting the ground for the future development of smart
sensing RFID tags. Teaching and training strategies will be implemented to
prepare the next generation of scientists in technologies related to low-cost
and ultra low-power smart chemical sensing tags based on radio frequency
identification (RFID) for food freshness quality traceability control through
packaging.
The
successful research-oriented applicant should have a university degree in
biotechnology, chemistry or material technology (natural or technical
sciences). We appreciate previous expertise in biofunctionalization, material
development and characterisation of the functional layers. Experience in
combining biomolecules to sensor applications is also appreciated. Fluency in
oral and written English is required.
The
position is open only to non Finnish citizens and to people who have not spent
more than 12 months in Finland in the last three years (for more information
see http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/
We
offer interesting and challenging research work in high quality, multidisciplinary
research organisation as well as highly experienced scientific advise for early
stage researcher.
