Dear all,

As many of you are aware it has been an interesting few months for me. I was hospitalized in July and subsequently diagnosed with an auto-immune disease (granulomatosis with polyangiitis) which aggressively attacks a range of tissues, primarily lungs and kidneys. I lost >80% of kidney function in just over 2 weeks. Fortunately at the 11^th hour I have started to respond to treatment and have recovered from a range of secondary problems and the prognosis is now very good.

I have essentially been off two months and will be on sick leave for some time to come. Opening my university email today for the first time I have more than 3000 unread emails. I hope that everyone will understand why I will not respond individually to them all and why my response to the rest will be very slow and will continue to be slow for at least a month.
