Metapopulation Research Centre (MRC) in the University of Helsinki was established in 1991. MRC is a highly international centre with more than 70 researchers, post docs, post-graduate students and supporting personnel. MRC has been awarded the position of Centre-of-Excellence by the national research council in 2000-2005, 2006-2011 and 2012-2017.
We are recruiting
A researcher
for the fixed time period 15.5. - 31.12.2015
in the project "Environmental biodiversity, human commensal microbiota and inflammatory disorders." The project is a continuation of our recent work (Hanski et al., Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2012 May 22;109(21):8334-9, Fyhrquist et al, J Allergy Clin Immunol. 2014 Dec;134(6):1301-1309.e11. doi: 10.1016/j.jaci.2014.07.059; Ruokolainen et al, Allergy. 2015 Feb;70(2):195-202. doi: 10.1111/all.12545; Haahtela et al, Clin Exp Allergy. 2015 Mar 13. doi: 10.1111/cea.12527), which suggests that reduced biodiversity may be linked to altered composition of the commensal microbiota and increased prevalence of allergies. The multidisciplinary consortium includes the groups of research professor Ilkka Hanski, professor Tari Haahtela, Dr Leena von Hertzen, Dr Petri Auvinen, professor Jukka Coranderand and research professor Harri Alenius.
Your duties include setting up FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) technique to identify bacteria in human skin samples. You will also extract RNA for microarray analyses and DNA for 16S sequencing. Of particular interest are immunological factors that are associated with allergic sensitization and microbiota.
We expect that you have a Master's degree. Experience with immunological and molecular biology methods and knowledge of immunology, allergology or microbiology are advantages. Research in a multidisciplinary group requires good communication skills.
We offer you an interesting and challenging job in our research consortium. You will be working in a laboratory in Meilahti in Helsinki. Salary is determined by the university salary scale.
Interested? Send your application with CV by May 5th, 2015 to Nanna Fyhrquist, nanna.fyhrquist@ttl.fimailto:nanna.fyhrquist@ttl.fi, who can be contacted for additional information about the position (tel. 030 474 2178).
