Subject: [Bco] Postdoc/PhD student position at University of Turku, RNA polymerase group

Post-doctoral researcher or Ph. D. student position, RNA polymerase group, Department of Biochemistry and Food Chemistry, University of Turku.

Post-doctoral researcher or Ph. D. student is invited to join a new and growing team studying bacterial transcription. The focal point of our research is a multisubunit RNA polymerase (RNAP), the enzyme that carries out the first step in gene expression, synthesis of RNA. We study RNAP catalytic mechanism with emphasis on translocation, a step specific to processive polymerases and motor enzymes. The project is methodologically exceptionally diverse, including gene cloning, mutagenesis, expression and purification of large multisubunit proteins and in vitro transcription techniques.

Post doctoral level applicant should hold a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry or closely related disciplines and is expected to have extensive hands-on experience in experimental biochemistry. Ph.D. student applicant should have a Masters degree or shortly receive one in biochemistry, biophysics, chemistry or related disciplines.

Position is available immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. The project is funded by the Academy of Finland. To apply, e-mail informal motivation letter, your CV and contact information of two referees to Georgi Belogurov, Ph.D. gebelo@utu.fi. Informal inquiries are also welcomed. Do not forget to include a meaningful subject line in your e- mail.
