*Position for a pro-gradu-student/summer job* at the research group of Markku Savolainen (Univ. of Oulu, Institute of Clinical Medicine, dept. of Internal Medicine). Our group studies the development of the atherosclerosis and the metabolic syndrome, especially the role of low HDL-cholesterol in those cases. At the moment we are focused in our studies on the genetics of the families with low HDL-cholesterol and on the analysis of the blood samples with 1H-NMR-metabonomics in the co-operation with prof. Mika Ala-Korpela. We also study the cellular and molecular biology related to cholesterol metabolism. Moreover, we study the development of the metabolic syndrome by using transgenic mice as a model. We have a position open for a pro-gradu –student or alternatively, a summer job for a 3rd-5th year student, with an interest to learn lipid metabolism and with an ability to use the most usual methods of molecular biology. Our research group belongs to the Biocenter Oulu and our laboratory is located at the Clinical Research Center, at the main building of the Medical campus. Biocenter Oulu serves the top-quality lectures and seminars for its researchers. The modern equipments and facilities of the Biocenter and the Clinical Research Center are available also for our group.
