Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research institute in Helsinki (www.fimm.fi) focusing on human genomics and personalized medicine.
FIMM integrates molecular medicine research, technology center and biobanking infrastructures promoting translational research and adoption of personalized medicine in health care. FIMM researchers are involved in several grand challenge projects, such as
the impact of genome information from the Finnish population in personalized health and medical interventions, development of individualized cancer medicine, and novel diagnostics via imaging of tissue and cells.
In the areas of bioinformatics and computational systems biology, FIMM collaborates with Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT (www.hiit.fi),
a multi-disciplinary research institute focused on basic and applied research on information technology. Modern molecular medicine requires state-of-the-art methodologies in the analysis, visualization and modelling of large data sets; HIIT groups provide
world-class excellence in these areas.
The Neuroscience Center (NC) is an independent research and educational institute (www.helsinki.fi/neurosci),
conducting multidisciplinary research on the development, normal functions and disorders of the nervous systems. The NC focus areas include molecular and cellular neuroscience, developmental neuroscience,
cognitive and systems neuroscience, and basic research of the nervous system diseases.
FIMM, HIIT, and NC work together with the University of Helsinki Doctoral School in Health Sciences and doctoral programs (http://www.helsinki.fi/health/)
and Helsinki Doctoral Education Network in Information and Communications Technology (HICT) to provide excellent research training aimed at a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki or Aalto University.
FIMM, HIIT, and NC announce the opening of the annual FIMM-EMBL International PhD call for applications. Doctoral student positions
in the fields of molecular medicine, bioinformatics, computational systems biology and biomedicine, and neuroscience are now open.
Outstanding doctoral candidates are recruited to an institute-level rotation program where students work with 2-3 different research groups during a 6-9 month period
prior to selecting a research group in which to remain for their complete doctoral studies. This program gives students an exciting opportunity to explore different research topics and working environments as well as learn a variety of science and technologies
and make connections within and beyond the institute.
Detailed information regarding the institutes, positions, research areas, qualifications, and application and selection process that can be found through FIMM’s Open
Positions page: https://www.fimm.fi/en/open-positions .
Applications are to be submitted via the online form provided on the Open Positions page no later than February 20, 2014, at 23.59.
