Dear all,

an opportunity exists to carry out research in our group for a period of approximately 6 months, preferably during the winter/spring/summer of 2010. The work includes recombinant expression testing of a number of constructs in different strains of E. coli, and scale-up of protein production and purification to the milligram scale when possible. The target proteins have been selected from the vertebrate nervous system; mainly they are specifically expressed in the myelin sheath and associated with cellular membranes one way or the other.

A working knowledge of molecular biology and recombinant protein expression and purification will be absolutely required. The suitable candidate understands the value of team work and has an enthusiastic attitude towards science. Good command of the English language will be required, as the majority of scientists in our lab are non-Finnish. The research will be carried out mainly at the Biochemistry department in Oulu, but visits to the CSSB laboratory in Hamburg may also be possible/necessary. Funding will be based on a tax-free grant; the exact amount will depend on the qualifications of the candidate.
