PhD student position is now available at the Neuroscience Center, University of Helsinki, in the lab of Tomi Rantamäki. The team focuses in understanding the molecular, system and functional level mechanisms governing the antidepressant-like, neurotrophic and neuroplastic actions of isoflurane in experimental models. Moreover, the therapeutic potential of isoflurane and related medications will be investigated in animal models of nervous system disorders that are beneficially treated with antidepressants and other neurotrophic/neuroplastic therapies. Ultimate goal is to translate the findings into clinical situations through collaborators.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated person with an M.Sc. degree in neuroscience, pharmacology or molecular neurobiology. The candidate should be able to perform basic neurobiological, pharmacological and behavioral methods. Previous experience in performing animal surgeries and curriculum of education in laboratory animal science are considered very beneficial. The successful candidate should also have strong communication skills in English and be highly organized. Salary will be based on the University salary system for teaching and research personnel, and composed of both task related and personal performance components.
