PhD Student position

at Turku Centre for Biotechnology (the Centre), BioCity Turku, Finland, a jointly-funded research institute of Åbo Akademi University and the University of Turku.

A PhD student position is available in the research group of Adj. Prof. Matej Orešič. The position is available from August 1st, 2014. The research group is funded by an Academy of Finland, Center of Excellence grant (ending in December 2017) and is also working closely with Dr. Orešič’s team at Steno Diabetes Center in Copenhagen. The research will focus on applications of metabolomics and fluxomics to elucidate metabolic pathways in development of type 1 diabetes.

The position starts after September 1, 2014, ending on December 31, 2017. Extension is possible, depending on funding of the research programme.

Ideally, the candidate is familiar with bioinformatics and biochemistry, knowledge of some basic cell and molecular biology techniques is a plus. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to be motivated and have a good grasp of the English language.

The salary is in accordance with the universities salary system (for teaching and research personnel) level 2, where the work specific salary component is between 1944,69 €/month. In addition, part of the salary (max. 46% of the base salary) is based on the personal performance.
