Dear all,
A number of changes have been forced on us regarding students in the old system transfering to the new system and we have had to make corresponding changes to our degree programmes. Details of these are attached.
In summary:
1) Students in the new system i.e. those who started after 1.8.2005 are not affected.
2) Students in the old system who are able to complete their studies (including all faculty paperwork etc) before 30.6.2008 are not affected.
3) Students in the old system who are able to complete their studies (including all faculty paperwork etc) after 1.7.2008 and before 30.6.2010 will have to transfer to the new system, but they will be able to complete their studies in the degrees for which they originally signed up e.g. "General biochemistry", "Biotechnology and Molecular Biology" etc, without having to do additional studies except the extension of the Pro Gradu project from 5 months to 6 months in length if the Pro Gradu project starts after 1.1.08. If you fall into this category please read the attached document. A HOPS form is also included for information.
Alternatively students who fall into this category have the choice of transfering to the new degrees i.e. "Protein Science and Biotechnology" or "Molecular and Cellular Biology" but if they do so they will have to take the appropriate courses for those MSc degrees.
It is possible to get a BSc from the old degree studies and then transfer to a new degree MSc i.e. "Protein Science and Biotechnology" or "Molecular and Cellular Biology" , but this will require more studies than completing the old degrees "General Biochemistry", "Biotechnology and Molecular Biology" in the new system.
4) Students in the old system who are NOT able to complete their studies before 30.6.2010 will have to trasfer to the new degrees e.g. "Protein Science and Biotechnology" or "Molecular and Cellular Biology" and will have to take the appropriate courses for those degrees. Please see Jari Heikkinen if you fall into this category.
There will be a meeting in BK226C next Tuesday at 3pm sharp to discuss these issues.
There will be a further announcement on changes to the Pro Gradu rules in the near future.
With very best wishes,
Lloyd
