Finnish Red Cross Blood Service (FRC BS) is looking for PhD student or fresh post-doc in genetics or related area.
Applicants are assumed to have experience or to be interested in both lab work (e.g. cell culturing and RNAseq) and NGS data analysis related to human immunogenetic studies. The study is a joint effort between FRC BS (Dr Jukka Partanen’s group) and University of Helsinki (Dr Päivi Saavalainen’s group). The position can be filled immediately till the end of 2015 and may be renewed depending on external funding.

Finnish Red Cross Blood Service is a non-profit organisation responsible for collecting blood and supplying blood products all over Finland in a centralised manner, with a turnover of about 65 million euros. In addition, FRC BS provides healthcare sector services, such as laboratory testings for organ, tissue and stem cell transplantations, and coagulation factor and thrombocyte assays. The Blood Service also hosts the Finnish Stem Cell Registry, which provides stem cell grafts for stem cell transplantations.
FRC BS provides an excellent research opportunity. FRC BS has an annual research budget of over 2 million € and publishes about 35-40 scientific publications each year. The research has four strategic focus areas: blood donation; cell biology of blood cells; immunogenetic compatibility of blood, stem cells and organs; and novel cell therapies.
