We are looking for an individual interested in developing highly innovative research projects on the TGF-beta type signaling in Drosophila development.
The current research focus includes; 1) patterning and morphogenesis of Drosophila wing (Matsuda and Shimmi Dev. Biol. 2012; Matsuda et al. PLoS Genetics 2013), and 2) analysis of BMP morphogen gradient dynamics in the embryo (Shimmi et al. Cell 2005; Umulis et al. Dev. Cell 2010).
The prospective project is to understand the molecular mechanisms behind the mobility (long-range signaling) and immobility (short-range signaling) of signaling molecules, and quantitative analysis of extracellular signaling cues and epithelial morphogenesis. The research projects include the fields of Drosophila genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, imaging analysis and high throughput approach such as gene expression profile analysis and they offer an interdisciplinary environment for research training. We are a member of the new Center of Excellence for Experimental and Computational Developmental Biology (2014-2019) of the Academy of Finland with a goal to obtain general principles and mechanisms that can be used to explain the development of different organs across different species.
Applicants are invited from candidates who have a background in developmental biology, Drosophila genetics, and imaging analysis. Academy of Finland funded postdoctoral position is for up to four years and open in September.
Further enquiries regarding the scope and details of the projects should be addressed to: osamu.shimmi(at)helsinki.fi or visit http://www.biocenter.helsinki.fi/bi/shimmi/
The deadline for application is August 15, 2013.
