Dear all,
There are a couple of worrying trends emerging connected with the Pro Gradu thesis.
1) Late submission
2) The science being good but the presentation being weaker.
Please remember you have 1 year from when you start your Pro gradu work to submit your thesis i.e. 6 months lab + 6 months write-up and that the quality of the presentation (spelling, grammar, diagrams etc) is critical to get a good grade. Please also check the final hard copy BEFORE handing it in. We have had several cases now where a student has prepared the thesis in one software, printed from another (including just using different versions of Word) and not noticed that the format has changed, sometimes with disastrous results. We can only grade what was submitted.
Finally those of you who have not seen the new rules, to do a PhD at this university you need at least grade 3 average from taught studies on the MSc AND at least grade 3 from the Pro Gradu, these are good guidelines to get any PhD position these days.
VBW,
Lloyd
