Subject: Open PhD position at the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems, Aalto University
We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Ph.D. student for a project studying silk proteins and materials made from them. We will use protein engineering for developing new silk variants and study their self-assembly into materials using biophysical techniques. The new composite materials developed in the project can be used as a renewable and biodegradable alternative to replace current plastic- and animal-based materials. The project will be conducted within the Biomolecular materials group at the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems at Aalto University.
The applicant should hold a M.Sc. degree, or equivalent, in a relevant field such as biotechnology. Prior experience on biomaterials, molecular cloning, and/or protein production is considered as a benefit but is not required. Good communication skills and fluent spoken and written English are expected. The Ph.D. student to be hired will be part of the vivid research community of the Aalto Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems and the bioeconomy FinnCERES flagship and Aalto Materials Platform and will work together with our top-level international collaborators. These premises will provide an inspiring and supporting environment to conduct high-quality research and to develop as researchers.
