One position is available (at PhD or post-doc level) for a highly-motivated candidate to pursue synthetic biology with cyanobacteria in Turku.
http://www.btk.fi/index.php?id=1882 http://www.btk.fi/index.php?id=1882
The field is microbial molecular biology/metabolic engineering/synthetic biology. At the post- doc level, we expect multiple articles in well-established international peer-reviewed journals in the field specified above. An ideal candidate for a PhD-position has already contributed towards a manuscript in addition to completing their masters thesis (or equivalent).
Experience or background in photobiology (esp. cyanobacteria) or microbiology is preferable. English language ability (writing, speaking) is essential. The ideal applicant has a genuine and deep interest in science in general and knows how to balance their will to not give up easily with rational decision-making. Other relevant characteristics include (1) positive attitude to life, (2) willingness to take initiative, (3) ability to innovate, (4) no fear towards solving technical issues and mastering new methods.
Apply by email (patrik.jones (at) btk.fi) with a CV and publication list (incl. links to each publication). Please provide contact details for 2 references.
The research objectives are pursued at a fundamental level. We use synthetic biology to modify the metabolism of our model host and then utilize such developed model systems to study fundamental questions of relevance for photo-biological energy production.
