Pro gradu experimental work opportunity at the Department of Anatomy and Cell biology in a project related to rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease, where antibodies against self-proteins are generated. One group of antibodies is specifically directed against citrullinated proteins and these antibodies predict a more severe course of disease. Citrullination is an enzymatic reaction (catalyzed by peptidyl arginine deiminases) that is involved in apoptosis, gene regulation and inflammation. Citrulline homolog, homocitrulline is formed spontaneously in carbamylation reaction. We are looking for a student to work with us in a project clarifying the mechanisms of these two reactions with the help of primary cell culture and immunohistochemistry. The student will work in the supervision of PhD Sanna Turunen and prof Petri Lehenkari.

The position will be filled when a suitable person is found.

If you are interested contact by email sanna.turunen@oulu.fi or show up at my door (room A228 Anatomy) more information available from the same places.
