DETECTION OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE
Turku PET Centre, Turku University Hospital and University of Turku
Turku PET Centre invites applications
for a PhD studentship or a Junior Postdoctoral Position to investigate the
possibility to develop imaging-based methods for the early detection of
Alzheimer’s disease. The position is funded by the Academy of Finland and Turku
University Hospital for a period of up to four years starting in January 2010
or earlier.
The research program “AMYLOID IMAGING IN THE EARLY DETECTION OF ALZHEIMER’S
DISEASE” is directed by Professor Juha O. Rinne. His research network in Turku
provides good working conditions with modern equipment, including small-animal
PET, inspiring colleagues and active international contacts. For publications,

Applicants should hold an academic degree qualifying for postgraduate studies
(MD, MSc or equivalent biomedical or Life Sciences degree) or a recent
doctorate in a relevant field. Experience in biochemical laboratory methods as
well as skills in laboratory animal handling are appreciated. The actual
research tasks of the successful applicant will be jointly determined at the
start of the employment. The main emphasis may be in ex vivo laboratory work,
in vivo animal imaging and phenotype characterization of transgenic mice or in
new tracer development (preclinical and clinical). The successful applicant
must be fluent in computer skills and in English.
