Turku PET Centre, Turku University Hospital and University of Turku

Turku PET Centre invites applications for a PhD studentship or a Junior Postdoctoral Position to investigate the possibility to develop imaging-based methods for the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease. The position is funded by the Academy of Finland and Turku University Hospital for a period of up to four years starting in January 2010 or earlier.

The research program “AMYLOID IMAGING IN THE EARLY DETECTION OF ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE” is directed by Professor Juha O. Rinne. His research network in Turku provides good working conditions with modern equipment, including small-animal PET, inspiring colleagues and active international contacts. For publications, see PubMed for “Rinne JO or Rinne J*”. For the research environment, see the following links:
http://pet.utu.fi/ , http://www.tcdm.fi/.

Applicants should hold an academic degree qualifying for postgraduate studies (MD, MSc or equivalent biomedical or Life Sciences degree) or a recent doctorate in a relevant field. Experience in biochemical laboratory methods as well as skills in laboratory animal handling are appreciated. The actual research tasks of the successful applicant will be jointly determined at the start of the employment. The main emphasis may be in ex vivo laboratory work, in vivo animal imaging and phenotype characterization of transgenic mice or in new tracer development (preclinical and clinical). The successful applicant must be fluent in computer skills and in English.

Please send enquiries and applications with CV, list of possible publications and contact information of one or two referees to juha.rinne@tyks.fi  latest on Sept. 28., 2009.
