Early Stage Researcher (Doctoral Student), Medical Biochemistry (position no 31116), School of Medicine, Institute of Biomedicine, Kuopio Campus
 
The duties of the Early Stage Researcher (Doctoral Student) involve postgraduate studies and research in the Institute of Biomedicine, leading to a doctoral dissertation. Furthermore, the Early Stage Researcher position involves teaching duties in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology in Finnish and/or English, and he/she is also expected to assist in other tasks relating to the activities of the institute.  The position is placed in the Institute of Biomedicine (
www.uef.fi/biomedicine) at the School of Medicine.

A person to be appointed as an early stage researcher shall be qualified to pursue postgraduate studies, i.e. he or she is required to have completed a suitable higher university degree. Positions of early stage researchers shall always be filled for a fixed term (UEF Administrative Regulations, Section 31).

The language requirements associated with the positions are defined in the Government Decree 770/2009. Members of the university's teaching and research staff are required to have command of the language they give teaching in (Finnish or Swedish). The Dean of the faculty may grant an exemption from the language proficiency requirements laid down in the Government Decree on Universities (UEF Administrative Regulations, Section 33).
 
The position will be filled for a fixed term of a maximum of four years as from March 1, 2014.

The salary of the position is placed between levels 2 and 4/ of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff (€1,944.69– 2,432.20/ month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be a maximum of 46.3% of the job requirement component.
