The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) is one of the largest universities in Finland.

The Faculty of Health Sciences is inviting applications for the following position:
Early Stage Researcher (Doctoral Student), Institute of Biomedicine, Kuopio Campus
The position will be filled for a fixed term from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2018.
The project focuses on the mapping and identification of active serine hydrolases associated with glioblastoma. The duties involve activity-based protein profiling (ABPP) and enzyme enrichment for mass spectrometry
identification (LTQ, LC-MS-MS), as well as expression of serine hydrolases in mammalian cells and pre-handling of samples for LC-MS-MS metabolism and lipid analyses.
A person to be appointed as an early stage researcher shall be qualified to pursue postgraduate studies, i.e. he or she is required to have completed a suitable higher university degree (UEF Administrative Regulations,
Section 30). A successful applicant will hold a (recently completed) Master's degree in the field of biochemistry, biomedicine, molecular medicine, or cell and molecular biology. Mastery of the methods of biochemistry or cell and molecular biology, as well
as mastery of cell culturing and cell transfection techniques are a requirement for the position. Experience in fluorescence-based enzyme activity assays and methods related to protein enrichment and molecular, biochemical, or pharmacological characterisation
will be regarded as an asset.
A high motivation for research is a requirement for the position. The working languages are Finnish and English.
The salary of the early stage researcher is based on level 2 of the job requirement level chart for teaching and research staff in the Salary System for Finnish Universities (i.e. the job requirement component
amounts to €1,964.69/month). In addition to the job requirement component, the salary includes a personal performance component, which may be up to 46.3% of the job requirement component.
