PhD position in Chemical Biology

Dr. Leona Gilbert’s group at the Department of Biological and Environmental Science is looking for a graduate student to conduct research on the subject area viral involvement in chronic diseases. More specifically the PhD student will investigate the autoimmune response to viral proteins of common viruses. Numerous viruses have been implicated in various autoimmune diseases, and a clearer understanding of how these widespread viruses participate in these conditions is the main focus of this research project. This project has long-standing international collaborators and provides the opportunity to develops oneself in highly global community.

A person interested in molecular and cell biology, and capable of developing skills towards independent scientific work is encouraged to apply. The division of Chemical Biology, a part of the molecular recognition cluster in the Department of Biological and Environmental Science, provides teaching and undertakes research in a field integrating with biochemistry, chemistry, molecular and cell biology, physics as well as nanoscience. The laboratory has long experience in studying and characterizing life cycles of animal viruses, using biochemical, molecular, virological and cellular methods, including advanced microscopy.
