Maaliskuussa alkoi Biocenter Oulun koordinoimana uusi Argumenta-hanke "Geenit & yhteiskunta", jota rahoittaa Suomen Kulttuurirahasto. Hanketta johtaa prof. Seppo Vainio ja itse toimin koordinaattorina. Järjestämme hankkeen puitteissa seuraavan kahden vuoden aikana tilaisuuksia sekä tiedeyhteisölle että suurelle yleisölle. Tavoitteena on saada aikaan uutta, luovaa ja poikkitieteellistä keskustelua geenitiedon nykytilasta ja tulevaisuuden näkymistä. Ensimmäinen Argumenta-luento pidetään kesäkuussa: Tilaisuuden otsikko: Genomitieto käyttöön! Genomitiedon merkitys Suomelle ja suomalaisten hyvinvoinnille. Puhuja: Johtava asiantuntija Tuula Tiihonen, Sitra. "Genes and Society" is a two-year Argumenta project funded by Finnish Cultural Foundation. The aim of the project is to bring together representatives from various fields to discuss the current state and future prospects of genetic research and its applications. Genes and Society project aims to discuss these questions both academically and among wider audiences by organizing seminars and lecture series in collaboration with both Finnish and foreign experts of the relevant fields of science. The first Argumenta-lecture is on Tuesday, June 2 at 15.00-16.00 (coffee at 14.40). The lecture will be held in the auditorium of Kastelli Research Center, Aapistie 1, Oulu. The topic is: Genome Data is at our hands: significance of the new information to the Finnish society and people's welfare. The speaker is Tuula Tiihonen from Sitra. The seminar is in Finnish.
