Subject: [Bco] PhD student position in Breast Cancer Research at the University of Oulu

A PhD student position is immediately open for a dedicated scientist in the research group of Professor Robert Winqvist in Biocenter Oulu (http://www.oulu.fi/biocenter/groups/winqvist ) at the University of Oulu. The main focus of our research is on unraveling the genetic background of familial breast cancer. This includes both the identification and functional assessment of novel genetic changes predisposing to breast cancer. Our current research funding comes from multiple main sources (Biocenter Oulu, University of Oulu, Oulu University Hospital, Finnish Cancer Foundation, Sigrid Juselius Foundation, Academy of Finland Centre of Excellence in Cell – Extracellular Matrix Research).

 The PhD student project will focus on the functional characterization of previously identified mutations, and includes analysis of different aspects of DNA damage response signal transduction cascades. The project is initially funded for 2 years, but can be continued. The student will apply for admission to the University of Oulu Graduate School at the beginning of the project and the aim is to complete the PhD thesis within four years.

 A successful candidate will have an MD/MSc degree in biochemistry, biology or equivalent and experience with basic molecular biology techniques and genetics. Experience in cell culture, FACS analysis and immunoblotting is appreciated.
