PhD STUDENT POSITION IN OSTEOARTHRITIS RESEARCH
One PhD student position is available in the University of Kuopio, Kuopio, Finland (University of Eastern Finland starting from 2010). The aim of the project is to quantify the effect of loading on the mechanical and biological responses of articular cartilage cells (chondrocytes) in fully intact cartilage. Understanding the behaviour of cells in their native environment provides novel insight into the cell mechanics in normal and osteoarthritic joints and can help to understand the onset and progression of the disease.
This is a collaborative project between the research groups in the University of Kuopio, University of Helsinki, University of Calgary and Eindhoven University of Technology. All of the groups are world-known experts in their own field.
The position can be filled at the earliest from June 1, 2009. The candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
We are looking for the candidates with the background in one or several of the following disciplines: biophysics, biomechanics, modeling, biomedicine, bioengineering, cell biology, biochemistry.
To apply, e-mail your CV, study record and application letter describing why you are interested in this position to rami.korhonen@uku.fi . Include also names and contact information of 2-3 references.
