PhD student is wanted at the University of Helsinki, Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences

One PhD student position is available at the University of Helsinki, Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences, starting in summer- autumn 2009. The aim of the project is to investigate autophagy, in particular the function and localization of beclin 1 and its binding partners in mammalian cells. Autophagy is a lysosomal degradation pathway that activates during stress conditions, and beclin 1 has a central role in its regulation.

The position can be filled at the earliest in June, 2009. Candidates will be considered until the position is filled.

We are looking for motivated candidates with a background in cell biology or biochemistry. The project will include cell culture, transfections, recombinant DNA techniques, light and electron microscopy, Western blotting, and immunoprecipitation.
