The Institute of Biomedicine offers a unique and stimulating research environment surrounded by state-of-the-art resources and facilities of the leading and largest biomedical research campus in Finland. The Biomedicum Imaging Unit (BIU:www.biu.helsinki.fi) is a core facility with some 200 active users. Our instrumentation include modern optical microscope platforms, optical and magnetic resonance in vivo imaging systems, and cell-based high content screening systems. The unit is currently establishing nonlinear label-free and super-resolution imaging systems.
Applications are invited for a LABORATORY ENGINEER
We are looking for a new member to our imaging team. Your main tasks will be to take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the new nonlinear imaging platforms, including user training and participating in the development of new applications. Additional tasks will involve taking care of general microscope instruments and computers, as well as help with troubleshooting, documentation and communication with the users. The successful candidate will also be involved in helping to organize both domestic and international courses. Training for the duties will be provided.
Qualification and experience: You should hold a suitable University degree in science, technical or engineering studies. You should be highly self motivated, able to work on your own initiative, and show a willingness to handle advanced optical instruments and learn new techniques.
Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate in English are essential in our multinational environment. Computer skills, including programming, are highly desired and previous experience and training in microscopy and optics, would be greatly appreciated.
The position offered is initially until the end of year 2012, with a possibility for extension. The earliest possible starting date is the 1st February 2012. Depending on the education and experience of the applicant, the salary will be based on levels 6�8 of the demand level chart for personnel in other than teaching and research positions in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal performance.
