Music is a fascinating phenomenon. Musical aptitude varies between individuals and it may arise in several different ways. Musical abilities have been studied for over hundred years but not until now have attempts been made to understand biological and genetic background of musical aptitude.

Two research positions are open at the Department of Medical Genetics, University of Helsinki where candidate genes for musical aptitude will be identified using genome-wide scan, gene expression microarray and microRNA analyses and the evolution of the identified variants analysed. The project is financed by the Academy of Finland and Biocentrum Helsinki Foundation. The salary is based on the University salary system (YPJ).
