The Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research (HIH), together with the University of Tübingen's Neurology Hospital, forms the Center of Neurology. It is dedicated to research, treatment, and teaching focused on the diseases of the human brain.

The independent research group "Molecular Brain Development" headed by Dr. Simone Mayer at the HIH is looking for a PhD student.

Are you interested in understanding the development of one of the most complex organs, the mammalian brain? We offer projects focusing on understanding how plasticity mechanisms modulate human brain development, evolution, and disease emergence. We employ diverse methodologies ranging from single-cell RNA-Sequencing to immunohistochemistry, live cell imaging, and electrophysiology on in vitro models of human brain development including brain organoids. We collaborate with scientists in bioinformatics, biophysics, and bioengineering, as well as clinicians.

Your profile The ideal candidate combines a passion for developmental neuroscience and an eagerness to learn new methods to answer challenging research questions. An excellent Master´s or equivalent degree in life science (e.g. biochemistry, neurosciences, molecular medicine) is required. Experience in cell culture, molecular biology, biochemistry or physiology is preferred. Computational biology skills are desirable.
