Biomedicum Functional Genomics Unit (FuGU) is a core facility located in Biomedicum Helsinki. FuGU operates at the University of Helsinki and is part of the national infrastructure network Biocenter Finland. FuGU provides users access to a wide range of functional genomics services and customized solutions with special expertise in genome profiling, viral gene transfer technologies and cell biology. The unit currently employs a staff of 9 with a background in molecular biology and biotechnology.

Project coordinator maternity leave substitute position**with possible extension**is immediately available in Biomedicum Functional Genomics Unit. The deadline for the application is May 1st 2013 but the position is filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found. A successful candidate has a polytechnics degree or a master's degree in molecular biology, biotechnology or equivalent. Experience in cell culture and basic molecular biology technologies is mandatory. At Biomedicum Functional Genomics Unit your work will mainly focus on the management of the recombinant virus laboratory including generation of bacterial glycerol stocks, DNA preparations, lenti- and retroviral particles for /in vitro/ and /in vivo/ purposes, distribution and management of a large-scale shRNA library, gene expression validation service with qRT-PCR, customer care and the general maintenance of the virus laboratory. Additionally, you will take part in the developmental projects of FuGU. Successful implementation of your tasks will require the ability to work both independently and in a team of scientific researchers and research assistants.
