Research Programs Unit is part of the faculty of medicine based in Meilahti campus and it employs 300 people with the annual budget of over 17 million euros. The unit does high standard international medical research. The Molecular Cancer Research Program is a diverse and lively international research community comprising of 10 research groups. The work environment enables one to follow and participate in top research in Finland.
A PhD student position is open in the field of cardiovascular biology and angiogenesis in the Molecular Cancer Biology research group led by Professor Kari Alitalo. The post will be filled as soon as a competitive candidate is identified. The length of the position will be discussed further at the interview. The salary will be based on the university salary system demand level 2.
The research group investigates the mechanisms controlling the growth of blood and lymphatic vessels in cancer and cardiovascular medicine. By using in vivo animal models, biochemistry, and cell and molecular biology we aim to identify molecules and pathways regulating the vasculature, and to find potential therapeutic targets to treat diseases. We offer a high-level, international and dynamic research environment with the state-of the art facilities at the Biomedicum Helsinki
A strong background in physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology or other relevant background is required and experience with laboratory animals is appreciated. If you are creative, motivated and enthusiastic for science, and ready for the hard work that the Ph.D. requires, please feel free to contact Dr. Riikka Kivelä (riikka.kivela-at-helsinki.fi, 09 191 25516) to discuss the project in more detail.
