Viikki Doctoral Programme in Molecular Biosciences (VGSB) -- an international PhD training program of the University of Helsinki - invites applications for Doctoral Student positions starting on January 1, 2012. VGSB offers both Ministry of Education funded positions, and Research Group funded positions. Research Group funded students are full members of the graduate school but their monthly income is paid by another source than VGSB.
VGSB focuses on the molecular mechanisms behind basic biological phenomena, and the research fields represented by VGSB are related to the research programs of Viikki Research Group Organization in Molecular Biosciences. VGSB's doctoral students are privileged to participate in an excellent PhD training program including basic and advanced courses in bioscience research, as well as extensive transferable skills courses. The goal is to achieve the doctoral degree from the University of Helsinki within the four-year graduate school period. The progress of the student is supported by the supervisor, a carefully selected Follow Up Group, and VGSB.
The Doctoral Student positions are open for all graduate students with a background in natural sciences, biology, medicine or another equivalent field. Applicants selected should start working in a VGSB affiliated research group from January 1st, 2012, and register as doctoral students of the University of Helsinki by the end of March, 2012. Undergraduate students are welcome to apply if their Master's Thesis/Diploma/Pro Gradu has been accepted by the faculty. The MSc degree (or equivalent) must be completed by March 2012 at the latest.
The Ministry of Education funded positions at VGSB can be applied maximally for four years. The salary for the present positions will be based on level 2 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. The salary costs of the Ministry of Education funded Doctoral Student positions will be covered by VGSB, and limited to the funds allocated for the purpose by the Ministry of Education.
Applications for the doctoral training positions are welcome from September 5th to September 16th, 2011. A link to the application form and further instructions will be published at the VGSB web page in August 2011.
