A MSc-level project researcher position is available in the field of cell/developmental biology in a joint project of Prof. Irma Thesleff and Dr. Marja Mikkola at the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Helsinki.
The position is initially for one year with a negotiable starting date. Depending on the interests of the applicant and the progress of the project, the position may be extended into a PhD student position. Salary will be based on the University salary system for teaching and research personnel. The project focuses on understanding the molecular basis of ectodermal organ development, in particular the role of Ectodysplasin (Eda) signaling pathway and its target genes. The project utilizes advanced confocal microscopy and live tissue imaging methods together with in vitro and in vivo manipulation of specific signaling pathways in embryonic mouse hair, tooth and mammary gland to understand the cell biological mechanisms regulating epithelial morphogenesis in development and disease.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates with top academic qualifications and a recently earned Masters degree in the field or cell biology, genetics, developmental biology, or other appropriate field. The applicants are expected to have good knowledge in cell biology; experience in confocal microscopy is an advantage. We offer an inspiring and supportive research environment and excellent facilities for a researcher interested in developmental biology and imaging. The project will be supervised by Doc. Marja Mikkola and Dr. Laura Ahtiainen. For further information, please contact Laura Ahtiainen (laura.ahtiainen-at-helsinki.fi) or Marja Mikkola (marja.mikkola-at-helsinki.fi).
The application should be sent to Marja Mikkola by e-mail, and it should include a cover letter describing your research interests, a CV with information on education (topics and grades), and contact information for at least one reference.
Application deadline is March 11, 2011.
