Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) is an international research institute in Helsinki (www.fimm.fihttp://www.fimm.fi) focusing on human genomics and personalized medicine. FIMM integrates molecular medicine research, technology center and biobanking infrastructures “under one roof” and thereby promotes translational research and adoption of personalized medicine in health care. Research areas at the institute include cancer, cardiovascular disease, neurology, and viral infections. In the areas of bioinformatics and computational systems biology and biomedicine, FIMM collaborates with Helsinki Institute for Information Technology HIIT (www.hiit.fihttp://www.hiit.fi), a multi-disciplinary research institute focused on basic and applied research on information technology. FIMM and HIIT work together with the Helsinki Biomedical Graduate Program (HBGP-FIMM) and Helsinki Doctoral Education Network in Information and Communications Technology (HICT) as well as other relevant doctoral programs to provide excellent research training and courses aimed at a PhD degree at the University of Helsinki or Aalto University. FIMM and HIIT announce the opening of the annual FIMM-EMBL International PhD training call for applications. PhD student positions in the fields of molecular medicine and bioinformatics, computational systems biology and biomedicine are now open. In this initiative, outstanding PhD candidates are recruited to an institute-level rotation program where students work with 2-3 different research groups during a 6-9 month period prior to selecting a research group in which to remain for their complete PhD studies. This program gives students the unique and exciting opportunity to explore different research topics and working environments as well as learn a variety of science and technologies and make connections within and beyond the institute. Detailed information regarding the institutes, position descriptions, research areas, qualifications, and application and selection process that can be found through FIMM’s Open Positions page: http://www.fimm.fi/en/open_positions/. Applications are to be submitted via the online form provided on the Open Positions page no later than February 14, 2014, at 23.59.
