The Centres of Excellence in Plant Signal Research and of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Meteorology of Atmospheric Composition and Climate Change in collaboration with the Finnish Graduate School in Plant Biology (FGSPB) offer PhD positions at the University of Helsinki.
The University of Helsinki, invites applications for 4 Doctoral Student positions The period of appointments is from September 2009 for four years. Positions are open for graduate students with a background in plant biology or a related field. Applicants should have a master's degree or equivalent, and should have no previous affiliations with other Finnish graduate schools. Students will become members of the FGSPB which aims to train scientific researchers in molecular plant biology including molecular biology and genomics, biochemistry, developmental biology, pathology and biotechnology. PhD training includes a national and international teaching program, participation in courses and meetings within and outside Finland and cooperation with other graduate schools. Progress of students will be monitored by a yearly follow-up group. Specific projects are available in the following fields: * Forest Ecology and Genomics * Cell-to-cell communication in Plants * Developmental Processes in Trees * Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions. The salary for the present posts will be based on level 2 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. In addition, the appointee will be paid a salary component based on personal work performance. With the salary component based on personal work performance the overall salary range is 1716- 2511 euro per month.
