A PhD position funded by the Academy of Finland is available at the Department of Chemistry/Organic Chemistry Laboratory, UEF, Joensuu. The salary will be based on the Finnish University Salary System for teaching and research personnel. Candidates should have a recent MSc degree in chemistry, biochemistry or related fields. The deadline for the application is November 29, 2012.

The project will focus on the structure-function studies of industrially important oxidative enzymes. Laccases, catechol oxidases and tyrosinases will be studied by X-ray crystallography to obtain insights at atomic level. Through collaboration with group of C.F. Blanford, University of Manchester, kinetics of enzymes will be studied by protein film voltammetry in order to elucidate the enzyme mechanisms. Experience in enzyme kinetics and/or protein crystallography will be an advantage.
