PhD student/postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Kaisa Lehti, Genome-Scale Biology Program, University of Helsinki.
The project will focus on the question of how the cells coordinate their molecular make up (e.g. signaling and adhesion molecules, proteases, and cytoskeleton) with the microenvironmental cues for transcriptional and post-transcriptional programs towards cell fate decisions between invasion, proliferation, and differentiation. To date, our research has revealed unique transmembrane protease cross-talk and interactions with receptor tyrosine kinases and adhesion molecules, which provide cells with dynamic regulatory pathways of cell invasion and growth outcomes (see e.g. Lehti et al. Genes&Dev, 2005; Sugiyama et al. PNAS 2010; Sugiyama et al. Cancer Res 2010; Tatti et al. Plos One 2011; Sugiyama et al. J Cell Biol 2013; Sugiyama et al. Cell Cycle 2013). The goal of the project is to define protein networks that link receptor ectodomain shedding and extracellular matrix degradation to cell adhesion, cytoskeleton and signaling to regulate tumor invasion and vascular interaction s in a tissue microenvironment-dependent manner. The studies will involve a range of cell culture, ex vivo, and in vivo models combined with biochemical, molecular biology, and genome-wide screening approaches, providing an opportunity for extensive functional and mechanistic research on tissue remodeling and invasive processes.
We are looking for highly motivated student/postdoc with curiosity and enthusiasm towards scientific questions and basic cell biology & biomedical research. Previous experience in molecular/cell biology, signaling, in vivo models, or high-throughput assays/analysis is appreciated.
The position is available immediately, and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To apply, please send your CV, list of publications and a cover letter describing your previous research and motivation along with the names and contact information of possible referees (e.g. previous supervisors) in a single PDF document by e-mail to Kaisa Lehti, or contact for further information: +358-9-19125034, kaisa.lehti(at)helsinki.fi.
