Dear discussers, may I join the party?
1. loosing students to the medical campus. To my mind this is not a problem that we cannot handle. I am proud to hear that our education is a good preparation for that demanding curriculum, and I think we shouldn't treat the changing students as traitors but try to coach them as good as we can for their future carrier. In most cases I believe the students are already deteremined to try medschool before they start biochemsitry, so why can't we ask them as early as possible (entry test) about such intentions, welcome those and the students, and take in more to compensate for the leavers?
2. (Academic)science is a life style, and I am happy and proud to be able to enjoy it, even if it is not all fun. But as already mentioned, I think we should talk about those issues earlier to the students, tell what biochemistry and science is about, and what not, and what are the the perspective to make a living out of it.
WBW Uli
