PhD student and post-doc positions are immediately open for dedicated scientists at the research group of Outi Monni in Biomedicum Helsinki (http://research.med.helsinki.fi/gsb/monni ). Our project focuses on identification of novel targeted agents that are effective for head and neck cancer and novel biomarkers that are linked with drug sensitivity. The drug sensitivity of many FDA-approved and investigational cancer drugs will be tested to a collection of patient-derived head and neck cancer cell lines and the drug response will be correlated to genetic profiles. The project includes the establishment of novel preclinical 3D and clinical tissue based in vitro and ex vivo models for head and neck cancer for drug sensitivity testing and defining genetic determinants for drug response. The project is carried out in collaboration with Prof Heikki Joensuu’s group and the group includes a team of senior scientists and PhD students. The project is initially funded by a 3-year Jane and Aatos Erkko grant.
A successful candidate will have an MD/MSc or PhD degree in biology, biochemistry or equivalent and experience with basic molecular biology technologies and cell culture. Experience in working with cancer models systems is highly valued.
Please send your CV and a short application to Outi Monni (outi.monni@helsinki.fimailto:outi.monni@helsinki.fi). The deadline for the applications is November 31st, 2013, but the position is filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
