A PhD student position is available in the research group of Dr. Jeroen Pouwels in the Centre for Biotechnology of the University of Turku. The position is available from September first 2013, though a later starting date is possible. The research group is funded by an Academy of Finland Research Fellow grant. The research will focus on the characterization of Sharpin, a functional integrin inhibitor (see Rantala, Pouwels et al., Nature Cell Biology, 2011 and Pouwels et al., Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology 2013).

Ideally, the candidate is familiar with eukaryotic cell culture, cell imaging and some basic cell and molecular biology techniques. Furthermore, the candidate is expected to be motivated and have a good grasp of the English language. Experience in cloning and protein purification is a plus.
